Frequently Asked Questions
What are Integrative and Functional Medicine?
Integrative medicine is a practice method that puts the patient at the center of care and combines conventional medicine with any and all modalities that might be considered complementary or alternative. This may include traditional lab testing, imaging, prescription medication, and specialty referrals, as well as recommending supplements, educating you on nutrition, breathwork, and meditation, or referring you to an acupuncturist, chiropractor or yoga therapist Functional medicine uses a systems-based approach that focuses on uncovering and addressing the underlying factors that contribute to symptoms and disease processes. Prevention and restoring homeostasis are the primary focus. Individualized factors such as diet, stress, sleep, movement, and genetics are considered in treatment. Our approach includes both conventional and functional lab testing to obtain a comprehensive picture. For example: assessment of the microbiome via stool testing, saliva testing for adrenal health, bloodwork for in-depth cardiovascular risk assessment, and genetic testing where indicated. Look under our Resources page for our trusted lab partners.
